PROGRESS! Mashed Potatoes!

Recommended Posts

I did have a big win today - I can move to smooth foods :) I immediately went to KFC and got mashed potatoes. Only had maybe one spoonful, but it made all the difference. it tasted absolutely wonderful. I'm looking forward to cottage cheese, yogurt, creamy Soups. I'm taking it very very very slow, but it's nice to have something other than broth and Water.

Consider masked cauliflower s with a splash of milk and a bit of butter instead of potatoes, far less calories and carbs. Same with canned cream Soup. I make cream Soup by cooking a pound of low cal veggies and preening with broth and milk. I decide up into 6oz containers. After heating it (up to 140 degrees or the Protein will clump. I add a scoop of unflavored Protein power mixed with enough warm milk to make it smooth.

You can substitute 1/2 can unsweetened coconut milk for the 1% milk for more fat and a different flavor. ,I like curry coconut

I loved my first spoonful of mashed potatoes too. I will always love them, but now at 4.5 mths I don't really desire them anymore. Strange, but good things are happening!

My NP told me to go to KFC and have mashed potatoes and gravy as my first mushy, too. She said that I could only have them once a week or so and to scrape off more gravy than potato. DELICIOUS. Like you, I could only handle a bit, but it was heavenly after a month of liquids.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
