Revisional surgery from VBG to Lap Band???

Recommended Posts

Has anyone out there ever had revisional surgery from a failed vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG) to getting the Lap Band surgery?

I have been to several doctors and the majority say that in order to get revisional surgery, I have to get the gastric bypass. The gastric bypass scares me. But then I went to Dr. Felix Spiegel in Houston and he said he could do it, because that is all he does. I am confused. Have any of you heard of or had the revisional surgery from vbg to lap band? Please let me know.

Thanks,

DEbi

Have you had VGB already?

I have read about people who had other types of WLS fail and then turn to lap-band, but not sure if anyone on this board has experienced that.

Can you tell me what happened with your sleeve? Did your stomach stretch? Was it ever successful?

I think she may have had the old style vertical band.

I have no answers for you Debi, but I wish you the best of luck!

Yikes! You are right!

I swear, each time I see VBG I think "sleeve". At least I have only done that around 100 times.

I would be very interested to hear your story Debi. I have read stories, but never heard a first hand account of a VBG surgery (and what can go wrong).

I am pretty sure that VBG is the old original style of sleeve before they knew to cut the stretchy part of the stomach out. What we are getting now is VSG - Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Not sure but I think VBG must have stood for Vertical Band Gastrectomy??? Easy to mix up the two but they are very different operations.

I have not heard of anyone but I had vgs 4 weeks ago today and I have been eating regular food off liquids for 2 weeks and I have gained 5 lbs. I am very woried . Dr Huacuz said he could convert me to bypass or a band . I hope I do not have to have either. What happened to you did you stop loosing righ away or did it come back later. thanks judylwebster@aol.com

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
