Weight loss rx+sleeve before a revision?

Recommended Posts

**************DISCLAIMER******************** I am not thinking about a revision since I just had surgery in June. I just like to be informed and the internet isn't giving me a lot of info on this subject. JUST CURIOUS ..******

So I read stories on here about revisions from band to sleeve, or sleeve to bypass etc. But maybe I am missing something. Do people get the option of trying a rx first in addition to whatever their current procedure is? And if so , do the drugs not work because of the new absorption rate? is it even safe to take weight loss rx if you have had bariatric surgery? Having this done once was such a process im just wondering what people go through when they seek a revision? if you have taken weight loss pills after surgery or had to consider a revision please share with me....thanks in advance.

********AGAIN I AM NOT TRYIG TO GET A REVISION************

Have never taken a weight loss pill. Never occurred to me. I can speak from personal experience that people revise from a band because of complications. It just doesnt work for a large percentage of people. My band caused acid reflux so bad I would wake up choking and gasping for breath. In the morning I would struggle to get Water through at dinner I had no restriction at all. Then it failed completely and wouldn't hold a fill at all, so I pretty much lit 16k on fire years ago. I should have just done a bypass to begin with.

Most people I've seen go from sleeve to bypass are doing it because they developed acid reflux from the sleeve and bypass often cures it

My surgeon said that doctors who are still banding should be sued for malpractice because there is enough evidence now to support not doing it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
