Hello I was wondering if anyone here regrets their surgery? I am still pondering whether or not to get it. I have to switch insurance first anyway. What was the process like? Do you feel happy with your decision?

I was sleeved on 8/8 and I have zero regrets. It is a journey and a tool for life...

Take your time in making the decision and I think it is helpful to start making changes with eating habits now if you plan on having surgery in a few months. I hope you find support here on BP and there are a ton of vsg videos on YouTube that are really helpful. Good luck to you with whatever you decide!

It took me a year to make the decision..I went through the process, read, researched and got approved,,then I chickened out but my health continued to worsen and I finally realize I needed to do something drastic...this is it....got sleeved on the 24th, I'm scared it isn't going to work but much of what I feel, I've heard others say so that's comforting...I'm craving chocolate like mad..sticking to chocolate yogurt but even that had to much sugar so not to much. I worry about this. Still I don't regret...I believe I did the right thing and I lost 18 pounds in the pre op diet so that gave me hope. All in all I'm happy with my status and glad I did it

No regrets at all. Sleeved 8/31/16.

Down a total of 75.6 pounds since I started this joust (44 post op 2- months). I have energy, my joints don't hurt any more, my BP is down, I don't huff and puff when I walk, I sleep better, I CAN PLAY WITH MY GRAND BABIES, and I'm not hungry. My only gripe is Constipation -but that is it.

I'm just beginning my journey. My only regret is I wish I had done it sooner.

Good luck to you on your decision!

I am 11 weeks out and I do regret it . I am still not feeling well and that seems abnormal. I still currently hate all food and drinking even grosses me out. It is hard for me to eat and even the smells of food is very hard to take. Watching my family eat is pretty hard and gross to me. I have no energy . Tired a lot- but I eat so little that isn't surprising . I am praying this changes. I have lost a lot of weight but now I just feel like a sick person instead of a fat person. I would rather feel like a fat person. Again- I am still praying this passes .

There was a recent thread in this you should look for with lots of responses. Most have no regrets but there are definitely some out there that would not do it again and they explain why which is important to hear. I personally am thrilled with my decision

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
