Hi everyone. I am really happy that I stumbled across this app. I was sleeved 5 days ago. Anyone experience a real achey pain in mid rib to few inches above belly button area post op? Really feeling it tonight...

Over the last few days, I've realized now more than ever that I have to retrain the brain when it comes to food. It's not like, for example, quitting smoking. A cigarette, you don't pick up again & you are good to go... you quit. But with food, we have to eat it 6 times a day... and have to continue making healthy decisions all day long.. so I've decided that I just need to kept it simple and meal prep... & be prepared with Vitamins & supplements & making time to work out... That is something I have struggled with in my past million attempts to get fit.. but i know this one is different

I had my surgery on 10/24/16 and my achy pain spot is just above my belly button also. I talked to my surgeon about it and he says that's the largest incision where they removed the stomach. Funny I didn't have any issuses with it until about the 3rd day post op. I do notice it starting to feel better now though. Good luck!

Hi @Sicilian_stephania,

Welcome to the boards! Lots of help and advice here. It's a great place to share concerns, success, etc.

As far as your particular pain, I believe aches are normal. However if it feels like tearing, burning or sharp pains, you should call your surgeon. I had pain in that area for 3 weeks.

You are right about the food issue! I have had food addiction issues and like you said, we can't just stop food. It's a true learning and retraining process mentally. The good news is, at least from my experience so far is that your body stops wanting crap, and starts wanting good stuff. I'm 4 weeks out, and I literally have to make myself eat now.

Thank you for your input. Last night I tried soupy oatmeal for the first & I believe I must have moved myself to the next level too quickly? Def was not a good experience because I was up until 4 a.m. in pain... praying I didn't do anything to mess up my sleeve. So today, I had to bring it back to basics... Clear Liquids fun fun I know lol but this too shall pass ????

I think Day 5 is too soon for food. Take it slow.

Yes I agree. I am supposed to be on clear & full liquids until 11/7... & I was finally feeling good so I decided that I would be brave & kick it up a notch & try the oatmeal. & it def did not agree with me. at. all.

I had to hit rewind... & realized I am def going to take it a lot slower than I thought. But I am OK with that lol thanks for the input

I am encouraging you to stick to your plan. Being brave after most of your stomach has been removed is not a good thing. Your stomach is healing and the least work it has to do to digest what you feed it is best. You can put yourself in danger for a leak or infection. Go slow and it will all come together eventually.

Exactly! I realized I was not as prepared as I should have been post sleeve. It's been 2 days & even though On my release paperwork from nutritionist it stated soupy oatmeal... I was in for a rude awakening. Today I made it a point to follow the liquid diet to the max. Decided that I am going to invest in some products on this site for the liquid diet & just take it slow!!

I tried to talk my NUT into pushing me up to puree a week early b/c i was so sick of liquid and was tolerating everything. she said that it's not about how well you're tolerating food but giving your stomach time to heal. i grudgingly waited another week, lol.

Exactly!!! When we think of it in that aspect, our entire outlook will change. I never realized how true the saying is - we are what we eat (& drink)! For once, I am going to stop trying to rush this process & stop trying to rush jumping into the next food phase & start learning how to listen to my body. Thanx for sharing that info!

Sorry about your pain. I am currently 4 days post op and struggling.

The pain I have is under the rib cage. A lot of pressure. It started last night.

I am also struggling on getting any liquids or Protein in. Like 20 oz Water a day and maybe 20 grams of Protein.

Has anyone had these issues? Is this normal?

Sounds like trapped air. It takes a while to get it all out. Around the ribs is where the air likes to hang out. I broke a rib last Feb and The air loved hanging around there, so painful.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
