Saggy skin...a real problem?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am planning to do the surgery in Jan.. but while reading through other's experiences I could see that excessive amounts of saggy skin is an issue to take care of post surgery. Is that really temporary or will I have to go through yet another procedure for that too .. please advise.

@@Annlinet How much your skin will sag has alot to do with how much you have to lose, how many times you've lost and gained, age and mostly genetics. Some require surgery to remove the extra skin - some just live with it - and some don't have too much. I'll be much happier with saggy skin than fat filled skin!

@@Annlinet No - unless you have plastic surgery. You can do some things to help - stay hydrated, get in all your Protein, moisturize, strength/resistance training - but if you end up with saggy skin - there's nothing aside from surgery that will get rid of it.

@@Annlinet it may improve to a certain extent over the course of a year or two, but usually not completely. The only way it is truly temporary (without surgery) is if you re-gain all your weight and re-fill it with fat.

I'm not looking forward to this either, but it's a small-ish price to pay for all the good. I'm just going to do my best to keep/build muscle while I lose, and experiment with skin firming treatments/supplements. But, I am totally expecting and planning on some kind of plastic surgery including Botox/fillers for wrinkles and lines. I used to stress the body lift scars, but luckily I'm a tattoo person so once everything is healed I'll just cover it up!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
