I have been struggling with my weight since childhood and I finally decided to look into surgery about a year ago. I completed my Kaiser classes and did everything I needed to do. I was terrified the day of surgery but knew I could do it. Wow, was I surprised how much pain I experienced when I woke up and the few days following the surgery. The pain has decreased since last week but now I'm concerned because I haven't lost the weight that I hear others are losing. The first couple of days I dropped 8lbs, probably because I was only really on IV fluids but since I started the Protein and liquids at home I've only lost 2lbs. I'm just scared what if I follow what I'm supposed to do and it just doesn't work?

Howdy and welcome!

Firstly- many congratulations and kudos for taking this huge step!!!! You're on the losers bench now!!!

Secondly, don't ever compare your loss with anyone else's. This is YOUR journey! Embrace each step, each tiny victory!

Thirdly, the surgery works ONLY and if only you work it! Follow your meal plans to the letter. Work yourself up to your Protein and Fluid requirements ( yes, hard the first few weeks). Don't deviate. Don't try to push the limits. Understand that the surgery was simply a tool afforded to you to attain your ultimate goal- health!

Finally, the first couple of weeks your body is adjusting to the changes. Allow it to heal completely and get on board with the new tummy you have.

Best of luck to you!!! Only YOU can make this happen- and you'll do just fine!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
