I was talking with a friend of mine tonight about all of the changes I have been making and when I told her no caffeine she asked why. Ya know I didn't have an answer for that. Then it occurred to me I don't remember being told why in any of my classes or appointments. Besides the fact that it isn't good for you, does anyone know any other reasons why we cut out caffeine ?

I was told by my NUT caffeine can cause ulcers in your stomach ! I quit cold turkey last Friday. I have been doing much better than I anticipated. No severe headaches so life is good

It is a good question to ask your medical team. When I did, I got a different answer from my surgeon than from my NUT. I drink caffeine daily (my drug of choice now that sugar is not) as do others on this board. Get the info and make an informed decision about what is right for you.

My NUT said it was a temporary measure to help combat dehydration post op. She said once we can get in at least 64oz of Decaf fluids, that 65th Oz on can be coffee or any other sugar free, non carbonated, caffienated drink. It takes most people a while to be able to get all their fluids in. They have us quit it Pre-op as not to do too many things to the body at once (imagine smoking and drinking caffiene up until surgery, and when you come out on the other side in pain, mentally hungry, exhausted, hormone dumping, etc... and with withdrawals from nicotine and caffiene. It wouldn't be cute.)

Caffeine has always been my vice. I've not had it for over a week now. I used to drink it all day. I think even if my Dr and NUT allow it later I'm going to refrain from it. I should have stopped caffeine a long time ago, I had way to much each day

My NUT said it can increase dehydration and a lot of people consume added sugar and fat in their caffeinated beverages, so they tell people to avoid it for the first 2 months post op. Also coffee is very acidic and can increase heartburn/gerd.

I have one cup in the am... caffeinated...8oz...and I use my Protein drink to sweeten it. Nothing else added. It keeps me regular, I don't know why, but it does. I waited till I was 8wks out and I can get my fluids in no problem. I was so constipated for those 8 wks, thank goodness I am now back to normal.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
