Greetings all

Any ladies have VSG that also have the Mirena? Did they let you leave it in during surgery? Any issues afterwards? My preop process got shortened from 6 to 3 months (yay!), so i find myself coming up with a million and one questions--but this is the only one i havent seen discussed--unless i missed it.

Anyhoo--just wondering if i need to make an appointment with my gyn during these last few months.

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. I have a weight visit tomorrow and will be scheduling my surgery date. I will try to remember to ask about this and let you know what they say. I'm sure each place is different but would give us an idea of what to expect.

VSG and the Mirena really have nothing to do with each other nor will they make either one work less etc :)

Love my Mirena.

There's no reason to remove it for surgery, surgery doesn't go anywhere near where the IUD sits. Also, it's imperative to have reliable birth control post op so there's lots of reasons to have it if it works for you.

Only issue I had was a short light period the day after surgery, lasted 3 days including spotting, after 8 years of no periods at all. Hormone changes, is what I was told. I'm 7 weeks post now and have had nothing else.

As a follow-up I talk to my doctor and just as I thought because Mirena is in a totally different place we are they need to do this incision in surgery that's not put the Mirena in to any Jeopardy of being accessed so the marina stays in there shouldn't be any problems unless there are hormonal issues which you can trigger an early cycle or have a cycle if you haven't had one in a while.

I have it...had nothing to do with surgery. I feel better having the birth control. I am only 2 months along, but the hormone craziness has given me a long period after not having one for quite a while. I was told this can happen and just hang in there. Darn hormones...they aren't nice!!

Have Mirena and did not have to take mine out for surgery (June 30th). However I know some who DID have to remove it prior to surgery so talk to your surgeon just to be sure.

Another person in my group asked if it could be a contributing factor to her non weight loss as she had it put in AFTER her surgery, so you can ask your surgeron that question as well.

Thanks. That was my biggest concern. I haven't had a real period in 8 years and i DONT want one!

Thanks ladies! Although i know my mirena has contributed to some of my weight gain (food started tasting really good after i got it--like REALLY good-lol), ive heard about the hormone issues. And even though its in a different location, you just never know. Plus i dont want any hinderances during my weight loss stage.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
