I got my insurance approval 2 weeks ago and my surgery date is 11/8! The wait is killing me. I'm nervous about the pre-op diet. Am I strong enough to do it? Im nervous for the pain and returning to work after? Am I going to be a lucky fast healer or am I going to struggle for the first two weeks? I have my preop meeting October 11. Start my two week diet October 25th. Seems like an eternity away.

@@mr1121 Meal Replacement usually means drinking high protein/low sugar Protein shakes instead of food during "meal time". Mine is 5 shakes a day. liquids usually means the non-caloric drinks you can have (usually as much as you want) like Water, Powerade zero, crystal light, Decaf tea, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello. There are so many versions of the pre-op diet - you really should insist they provide you with detailed information.

Nov 11th sleever here! I also have similar fears. The only comparison I have to this is when I had my wisdom teeth removed and I was incapacitated for a week+, though not sure if that was the surgery itself or the pain killers I was on after. All I have left is pre-admission testing which includes a barium swallow test, and one more f/u with NUT, Psych, and my surgeon each. 38 days can't go by fast enough!

I'm passing the time by enjoying the weather (October in New England is amazing), and trying to get a jump start on the pre-op diet. I've cut out carbonation and now I'm working on cutting caffeine and trying out the chewable Vitamins to see what I like. Trying to also lose a little weight pre-op so I'm going to the gym more and meal-prepping for the week, so I feel a LITTLE more productive about it instead of feeling like I'm just sitting around.

Your date will be here before you know it!!

I honestly don't know yet! I find out on the 11th. The. I started reading the forum on people who aren't happy with their decision to do the sleeve and wishing they didn't do it. Now I'm a whole new anxiety level.

Usually the regret is very short lived and is within the first week or two when hormones are raging and you're recovering from major surgery. Read all of the success stories!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
