Throat swollen 17 days post op?

Recommended Posts

I searched this on here, and saw it was normal to have a swollen throat in the first few days. I'm 17 days out, and just woke up from a nap with my throat feeling like it's closing in and it hurts.

I ate half a scrambled egg for the dirst time today about 8 hours ago. Any ideas?

Hi rolosmom7,

Can you clarify...has your throat been like this for the entire 17 days? Or was it just for the first few days, and then happened again today?

If its new, I'm wondering if maybe you are just getting sick with like strep or something similar?

It is has been constant the whole time, I think you should definitely give your doctors office a call.

Best of luck, and keep us posted. I hope you feel better really soon.

No, it seemed normal enough after surgery - some trouble initially woth getting fluids in but finally got there. Can't hit Protein goals yet. A few days ago I got some tuna salad puree stuck, and it went away about 2 hours later.

Today is different - all I've managed to eat today is half a scrambled egg with cheese. The choking sensation woke me up from a nap. I've been sucking on crushed ice and have also done hot tea. Almost 2 hours of this feeling.

My husband and I went through my entire book, and since I can still breathe he sees no reason to call or do anything until they're open tomorrow.

I know everyone is different, but isn't 300 calories a day at 17 days out odd? Or is it just me being too nervous.

Thank you for your help!

@rolosmom Try broth and call Dr in morning. Do you have a temp? Maybe it was the eggs - many people can't tolerate them.

Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

No temp. I called a very unhelpful surgeon on call. I'll give my actual surgeon's office a call in the morning.

Wonder why the egg intolerance? Does it include cooked eggs, like in the ricotta bake?

Thanks

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
