How Many Calories Were You Taking in Around 7-8 Weeks?

Recommended Posts

Hi, all!

When you were about 7-8 weeks out from surgery, how many calories were you taking in? Up until about two weeks ago, I was taking in no more than 600, but my nutritionist wanted me to increase to *at least* 800 calories. At first, I found this difficult, but now it's almost too easy, and I have found myself sometimes climbing up towards 900. I am still losing (although it's certainly slowed, which I know is normal), but I want to feel secure with the number of calories I am taking in.

Anyway, I am sure I am over-analyzing this! :) And I can always reach back out to my nutritionist for clarification, but I am curious to see what other people are/were doing?

Thanks so much!

I was eating around 600-650 calories per day back then. I was ordered to stay under 800 calories per day for the first six months, and under 1100 thereafter until I reached goal. It worked for me.

Thanks for your responses, everyone!

Northcountyr1, I swear by GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. It's 30 grams of Protein and only 57 calories. You can put it in anything.

And yes, I was walking for the first four weeks. Since being cleared to do more, I also bike and have started a C25K program (run/walk). Have also incorporated some minor strength training.

I was sleeved on 8-8-2016 and I'm worried I can eat too much. I ate an entire orange with a few nuts earlier with no problems. Is this normal??

It could be your nutritionist wants you at that level because of your level of exercise and activity, depending on how many calories your burning a day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
