Ack! Cheated on first day of pre-op diet!

Recommended Posts

I had lox and Bagels for dinner. I know, shame on me. I needed something solid in my stomach and thats what i had left in my fridge. I was feeling very out of sorts. Bad heartburn, nausea, light headed with diarhea all day. I was walking around Walmart in a fog and had to pull over on the way home because of dizziness.

I was doing ok Protein wise (~50g) and had drank 40 of my 64oz of Water.

I dont remember feeling this bad the last time. Has anyone else had this nasty combo before and how did you deal? I did 10 days of liquid diet in July and never had so many issues at once.

@@QueenOfTheTamazons You probably need something with electrolytes or sodium. Try having some broth. What is your pre-op diet? I'm shakes only and some broth, sf popsicles, sf Jello. No food.

Shakes, Jello, broth, liquified and/or strained broth or creamy Soups without rice or Pasta, gatorade, juice, etc.

They sent me diet food packs (similar to medifast or WonderSlim, dont remember the name) that has oatmeal, but only during the first week. I can also have cream of wheat during the first week. The oatmeal is nasty paste. I always used to turn it into bread on medifast and i hate cream of wheat.

If you don't have broth, get some or make some. Just sweet Protein shakes will drive you nuts. If you have to eat something just lean meat won't kill you. Carbs are not going to help with shrinking your liver. The last day obviously you have to do exactly as told.

More Protein is going to satisfy your cravings and stop you from being so hungry, 50 grams really is not enough.

50 grams was just Breakfast and lunch. I was planning on at least 20 grams more for dinner and snack.

I will try to keep some deli meat or similar for this type of thing.

I don't advocate "cheating" at all on the pre-op diet, but if you have to do it, do it with Protein. The whole purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver by depleting your glycogen stores. Depleting your glycogen stores fully will force you into a state of ketosis (where your body must burn fat for energy). The transition into ketosis sucks. You will have headaches, light headedness, fatigue, etc. As soon as you re-introduce carbs, your body leaves ketosis and then you have to go through the transition ALL OVER AGAIN. It's miserable enough the first time. Definitely no fun going through it a second time. So, the moral of the story is, no bagels!

Keep your fridge stocked with healthy options on your diet then you won't be eating Bagels. I have mixed Protein Powder with any things sugar free.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
