Didn't do pre op diet properly and having surgery in 4 days

Recommended Posts

I'm so worried that i did this stupid thing I'm having my sleeve gastrectomy surgery in 4 days . my doctor gave me 2 weeks pre op diet to shrink in my liver but i didn't followed it correctly i was thinking about that these are my last days to enjoy food i regret it now . actually I traveled to another country to have the operation i had my blood tests and everything I'm worried because what if i have fat liver and mu surgery will be cancelled ?

I will feel like a complete loser because all i ever wanted was to do the operation and I didn't took the diet seriously my doc also gave me a ultra sound to do will they find out in ultrasound if i have fatty liver ?

I mean does ever fat people have fatty liver ?

My BMI is 42 i never smoked or drank alcohol .

I know friends who did sleeve gastrectomy but they didn't go through pre op diet and they are doing perfectly fine now

Please i need help I can't move the surgery to another date

You need to talk to your surgeon about this. It's never wise to withhold information from the person who will be cutting into major organs in a few days. Please call and talk to them about your worries.

I agree you need to talk to your surgeon. It also depends on how far away your deviated from the diet. If we are talking a couple of meals, you are probably fine. If you are talking the whole time, then you are probably not.

I also think you should ask yourself if you are really ready for this.

Not every surgeon has the same preop diet plan. Some people have strict liquid diets, my surgeon only required a 1400 cal or less daily for three weeks. I was able to eat reasonable meals during my preop time. However I did not have a fatty liver to start with.

I respectfully disagree. I know that "food funerals" are never a good idea and show a lack of discipline in some respects, but I've seen lots of people who have had them and still become really successful with the surgery. I've also seen people who were perfect with the pre op diet and struggle with the surgery. Goes both ways.

I totally see what you are saying. :) And I'll go back to what I said before, a few deviations are probably fine. This is a big deal and scary and sometimes those fears drive us back to bad behaviors. This shit is hard. My comment about asking if she's ready for it is more if she didn't stick to the diet at all.

i'm on day 11 of my opti fast diet which is 900 cals the first day i ate 1/4 of a graham cracker i feel so bad and i'm going to make sure my surgeon knows. the diet is so they don't nick your liver and cause more issues. keep to the plan.

Thank you all for your reply I'm going to tell my surgeon everything true ,

I didn't completely cheated because as i said I travelled a different country for the surgery before travelling i was following my diet and after that I couldn't cook myself i ordered from outside .

And my doctor allowed me to eat grill or steamed fish chicken and beef .

And as babbs said i know few friends who didn't do any pre op diet but are successful with the operation

And hellya I'm totally ready for this , this is exactly what i want i know i did the wrong thing .

But i have 4 more days left and i will try my best to make use of it get more strict with my diet and walk a lot

Just make sure you follow the rules after surgery. It's a big deal to your health then when your stomach is healing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
