I have UMR but just at the starting gate. Haven't seen the doc yet oct 4th called UMR but they wouldn't tell me one way or the other if I'll be approved. Keeping my fingers crossed. Hopefully someone out there can let us both know. Best of luck to ya!

ask your surgeon about dropping below 40 bmi. I had the same concern and my office said they submit the weight from your first visit, not from any of the follow up visits.

I unfortunately had to maintain a higher weight to qualify for surgery as I was in the 40-41 area the past year. If I lost 10 pounds, I was in trouble insurance wise.

Ok thanks for the info. But how did you know this? I thought I was gonna have to do a diet before approval. If I follow the diet how can I maintain the BMI?

My clinic told me. I worked with my pcp on the DASH diet, it is helpful for blood pressure but wouldn't necessarily make me gain weight. Think south beach with no salt (grain rice, grain Pasta, fish/chicken).

My weight gain is also heavily from rx meds. So it's impossible to get off without serious intervention ie surgery.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
