4wks out and starving

Recommended Posts

Check out the recipes section. You'll start to get ideas of how to make variations on your favorite foods. I just made a variation on mexican food tonight (recipe posted). You may want to add Beans, pureed beef, etc, to your diet for more variety. One of the ways I'll get variety is through the seasonings.

What stage are you on? There's a lot of good things to try. The Mexican recipe mentioned above looked really good. You could do ricotta bake, ground beef with cheese melted, baked white fish, refried Beans, buffalo chicken dip, egg salad, ham salad, deviled eggs (could add avocado), cottage cheese with hot pepper relish (just check sugar content). Experiment and enjoy!

Watch ground beef so early. Many have issues with it.

Soft proteins........ I would stick to the diet plan your surgeon gave you. When I was allowed soft chicken about six weeks out, it lodged in my chest. I still rarely eat chicken because of that experience that terrified me. Go slow, don't try to eat anything that isn't soft or puréed unless your surgeon tells you to. Good luck!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
