Weight gain at 9 weeks out! HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I have noticed that over the past 5 days or so, I have been gaining weight. This goes along with the beginning of weight training as well as an increase intake in salt. I must say that I have probably had more carbs than I should in the beginning but I am back on track. Do you think I should attribute this to muscle mass or the retention of Water due to the increased salt intake. Oh yeah, I am also 44 and could be starting menopause. I am just so frustrated. Any words of advice or motivation would definitely be appreciated.

How many calories are you eating?

At 9 weeks I would think it almost impossible to actually gain real weight.

Are you getting your Water in?

Working out doesn't mean more calories. At 9 weeks, I can't see how you could eat enough to actually gain weight... unless you are eating a lot of carbs. No simple carbs AT ALL. Just lean Protein and maybe a bite or two of non starchy veggies. That's it.

I'm going to say not getting enough Water in. I'm at 4 weeks out today and my appt yesterday registered at an 8 pounds weight gain. There is no way partial way I could do that. I really dropped in my Water intake so I'm hoping my numbers go down real soon.

I don't know how that is possible to gain weight at 4 or 9 weeks out I was still having issues eating and not keeping it down. As for weight lifting at this point, i was told no weight lifting yet. I could use wrist and ankle weight's and resistance bands. Your body is in recovery and is focusing on weight loss. Keep your focus on your Proteins and Water.

I bought a Garmin Index scale. It measures weight, BMI, Water, fat, muscle and bone. I have used it for nine months and have enough readings to look at the graphs and see if I am holding Water, gaining muscle, or increasing in fat.

I no longer torture myself wondering what is causing a difference on the scale.< /p>

I highly recommend getting a smart scale and knowing what has changed.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
