Updated September Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Went to Dr. yesterday. Am now scheduled to get first fill on 19th of November. Forgot to ask if I am supposed to show up with an empty stomach or if I can eat normally leading up to it. Any one know the answer to that?? Will call and find out, but curious what others have been told.

kmmmm

I went for 1st fill with an empty stomach. You drink Water at the fill and you need to know if it goes straight down or if it backs up. Having food in your stomach would effect this process and give a false water test.

Thanks, NM, that was I was thinking would be the case. It only makes sense that you wouldn't want food in there filling it up. Glad appt. is early a.m. Have you had more than one fill?? I am guessing not since you got banded around the same time as me.

Only the 1 fill. I do really need a 2ed fill as the 1st just didn't work after a few days. Others have a very different experience on their first fill.

I am now adjusting better to the second fill. I was toooo tight and had to go back. I am happy that I feel the band with me now to remind me it is there. Drinking is still hard, I want to gulp and I CANT. Having to really watch what I eat and chew, I am not complaining, it feels great to me. Just dont get too tight, that is horrible and scary. The rules are definitely needed now. Good luck on your fills everyone !

It takes a good amount of food before I can feel my band. I'll remember your warning and not get overfilled. You may be at that 'sweet spot' now?

I had my surgery on 9-12-07, my first fill was on 10-24-07 1 cc.

My second fill is on 12-10-07

For the most part I have restriction, I still get hungry but I think it more head hunger then anctual stomach hunger.

My main problem prior to being banded was overeating. Two to three times a week I would overeat especially from the hours of 7 to 12 at night.

With the band I can no longer do that. I also get up every morning at 5:00 and go for either a 4 or 5 mile walk. Since I get up 2 hours earlier I go to bed between 9 & 10 at night so it helps a great deal with my tendancy to over eat.

I eat my meals very slow, Proteins first, veggies second and carbs if I am still hungry. I try not to drink for at least an hour after my meal and with my walking in the morning this has help with the weight loss.

Unofficially "naked" I have lost 20 lbs since my surgery, but officially fully dressed I have losts 18 lbs. It is slow but I knew that going in and opted for this surgery instead of the RNY so I am ok with the slow. Acutally, it isn't really that slow, I can't remember the last time that I lost 18-20 lbs in 2months! I get my second fill on the 12th of December. I had my first episode of getting food stuck and having to throw up last week, the hot roll that I ate 1/2 did not go down!! I know better than to do that again! Am a little worried about getting my second fill, I really need to start practicing how to eat properly!

Jan, me too on the PBing. Waffle did it. Strange though because I had one 2 days before and no problems. I am 2 weeks post 1st fill. I was beginning to think I need another now but not so sure now since the waffle incident. Scheduled for 2nd fill on the 31st though.

There you folks are ... I lost the thread - hadn't posted in a long long time .... I am loosing slowly. Doc is very conservative with the fills, he only put in 1cc each time (2 fills) I am going for fill number 3 next week, hopefully the "sweet spot" will kick in. Wow Karen you are doing great - :thumbup:Congrats !!!! How many cc's does everyone have so far - just curious.

I have now had 3 fills. #1-3cc, #2-1cc, #3-2cc in a 14 cc band. This time I really do feel it. Haven't felt much change up to this last one. Will go back in 6 weeks and get another unless this one still as effective as now. If so, I'll wait. Glad to hear from you Carol and thanks! What is you story?? Any kids, job, husband, etc...??? Me- married 21 years, 4 daughters (17,15,14,11) stay at home mom thinking about getting a job, but sometimes it gets so crazy here that i don't know if i could handle working. We will see.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
