Hello All,

Okay, so I had my first fill yesterday (1.3 ccs). I am going to be on liquids for 3 days and I have a couple of questions.

1- How soon do you start feeling the restriction?

2- Why do I have to be on liquids for 3 days?

Every doc is different it seems on how long they want you on liquids or mushies after fills. The reason is similar to why you were on them after banding, for the inflammation and irritation of the stomach as well as to allow it to get settled.

I see you have about 20 posts, and I am unsure how much research you've done before now, so please forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know, but I would guess the vast majority of people get NO restriction from the first fill, and VERY often, no good restrictive feeling from the first couple of fills. Many people report that their "sweet spot" isn't achieved until fill number four or five or more.

Sometimes you will feel no restriction right away but BAM in a week or ten days or a couple weeks there it is! Isn't the body a wonderous thing? Who knows why that is, it just happens for some of us.

Occasionally folks do feel restriction right away after a fill and then it goes away, too. This band is a finicky thing and I believe it takes a while for us to get to where we are comfortable with what feelings mean what.

Good luck and be patient (easier said than done, I know!).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
