What are 'The Band Rules'?

Recommended Posts

Excuse my ignorance, I'm really new at this...but what are the 'band rules'? I've been reading through posts by people who have been successful during their first 6 months with the band, and several of them said that they accomplished their amazing weight loss by "following the band rules." Are these rules different than 'regular' dieting or healthy eating? Or is this the same thing as not 'eating around the band'? Am I missing something? Thanks!

hi tonia,

basically what your doctor tells you are the "band rules"

some that i follow:

1. 3 meals a day

-eat small, small bites and chew, chew, chew

2. Protein should be eaten first. then veggies, etc

3. drink at least 8 glasses of Water a day.

4. exercise (for me this is key, key , key to weight loss). i go 5 times a week since being banded

5. no drinking after meals for 30 minutes.

6. junk food is out. whenever i break this my weight loss slows down

there is alot of info under the "pre op" "post op" threads

are you banded?

Thanks, josie. Actually, I am being banded on Friday. :clap2: As you can imagine, I have been living on this website for the last month. :) Trying to absorb all I can before the big day. of course, I know this is a lifetime learning process...

I hope Wendell Edwards stumbles on this thread, he has a WONDERFUL list of Banding 101's and more advanced band rules.

Josie, Thanks for the follow-up! I am doing okay. Still feel kind of 'weird' and filled with gas, if that makes any sense. But I feel better each day.

toni..how was your surgery?

hope you are well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
