InstaPot and Pressure Cooker Question?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, went to my 2 week post op meeting today and am now allowed to have some foods....limited list, but I am not complaining!

The nutritionist recommended we use a crock pot to cook meats, and specifically said no pressure cooker bc a pressure cooker tends to make meat stringy and tough....but I thought I have heard that meat was tender when cooked in a pressure cooker?

What's been your experience? I was all set to order my InstantPot, but would like to hear if you all find the meat juicy and tender enough in a pressure cooker? Maybe my NUT doesn't use one herself?

Thanks!

I use my instant pot about every other day! It is the best kitchen appliance I have purchased in a long time.

The only thing I have noticed can get stringy if you cook it whole is chicken breasts. I have learned to chop it into smaller pieces and Cook for less time. I also do an instant release instead of letting those types of meats sit in the cooker while it naturally releases.

My absolute favorite thing I have cooked in there was beef stew. It was very tender, not stringy at all. I cooked the meat first and it was fall apart tender at a 30 minute mark. I then added my carrots, mushrooms in larger chunks, let it go another 10 minutes. I threw in some frozen peas for 3 minutes and my goodness it was delicious. I made baked potato for my husband but I just ate the stew.

I made stuffed cabbage rolls in there for dinner yesterday. YUM!

Stuffed peppers are fantastic as well.

Just go onto Pinterest and look up instant pot recipes. You can make almost any recipe Bariatric friendly.

I COULD NOT live without my pressure cooker!!! I too use the instant release method. Mine is electric as well, so I can sauté any veggies like onion in the bottom first and then add the rest.

Heck! I dump frozen veggies on top of everything right in the begin inane have a table ready meal in 30 minutes! With a family of five- kids in sports, tons of running around, I would not have survived the last few years without it!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
