Recommended Posts

I believe you have to have two or more co morbidities in order to qualify and have at least a bmi of 35 that's what my insurance policy states

It is 35 BMI (which i am) and one comorbidity. But I thought typically a person with a higher bmi are more apt to go with gastric bypass. Had my surgeon consult today, and be ause of acid reflux he said I could do the GB instead of the sleeve. Not sure what to do, but I know forsure Im concerned about the reflux that is typical after the sleeve

I was going for the sleeve but because of being a diabetic and having gerd, I'm going with GB. Generally, people with higher bmi's so go with GB or DDswitch. Mine is 42 so.... I definitely don't want to have worse acid reflux and I want the greatest chance of getting rid of diabetes. Plus, I hear about about a lot of people being revised from lap band or the sleeve to RNY and I don't want to have to get anything revised!

What is a mini-bypass? I've heard this term before and I'm unsure of how the procedure is different than RNY or Sleeve? I can probably google it I'm just lazy lol

If you are already struggling with gerd, bypass cures it. I had a severe case of gerd where I coughed everyday for over a year.

I was on the max dose of Nexium and no where to go if I had the sleeve and it was an issue so I decided to go bypass.

I have not had gerd or even a simple case of heartburn. I can eat things I never could before.

Reflux was the reason I chose bypass and I am so thankful I did. I did not want to go through this twice.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
