What is that first post-op week like?

Recommended Posts

Yep. I'm home. Things are going pretty well. Taking it easy with some light walking. The pain has decreased quite a bit. I'm not able to get much Fluid in, but I'm sure that will change.

I think I struggled to drink 600ml my first day post op and now I can do 2000ml a day easy. Just keep keeping on and you'll be amazed how quickly the time passes. This part is the hardest until you reach maintenance [emoji4]

I'm 10 days out and feel the best I've felt in many years.

Day 1:

Minor pain and discomfort; pain meds worked great. The worst part was having the nurses check vitals hourly.

Day 2:

Had difficulty going pee. Knew I had to go, but it just wasn't happening. The nurse put a peppermint liquid in my urine bottle and told me to give it a few minutes and try again. She told me the smell helps some patients urinate and low and behold; it worked! Released from hospital.....

Day 3/4:

Breakfast: Protein Shaken then went for a short walk (600 steps/fit bit)

Lunch: Protein Shaken then went for a short walk (600 steps/fit bit)

Dinner: Protein Shaken then went for a short walk (600 steps/fit bit)

Minor pain w/gas.

The issue I was having is drinking Water just wasn't satisfying enough and I didn't know if my hunger pains were mental or true hunger pains. I found a Crystal Light (Sweet Tea) I like and it took that feeling away immediately.

Day 5:

Went to work for 1/2 day. Should of stayed home. Very tired

Day 6/7: Weekend

Followed Day 3/4 schedule.

The minor pain started going away

One week out Dr. Appointment: Loss 16.5 lbs.

I made the right decision!

Thanks redsox06. I'm 3 days out right now and feel pretty good. I am having trouble getting the amount of liquid down that I need but I heard that gets better. The pain is tolerable and I'm not taking the pain meds all that much anymore. I'm just taking it one day at a time, but things are going well. I know things will be good once the pain goes away and I can take in more Fluid.

It really to me about a week to feel an increase in energy. I've been back to work since Monday and just make sure I sit down when I need a break. As for the exercise, my goal is 10,000 steps/day; no matter how many little walks I have to take. You'll do great!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
