Ok, so My surgery was on 8/15/16, the first two day I slept the entire time from the time they rolled me out the OR. I don't Remember anything! Day 3, I slept most of the day as well but did come home. I took very little pain medication in the hospital but still couldn't stay up long enough to even talk to anyone or reply to a text! Day 4, I laid in my recliner and continued to sleep with only one dose of pain medication and Zofran. So, day 5 I had to get my butt in gear, my 2 and 4 year old children where coming home from my sisters house and as a single mother with very limited help I knew I didn't have a choice but to suck it up! I slept agin most of the morning until they arrived around 4pm. My daughter starts kindergarten in two weeks so I forced myself to go to a back to school picnic with the assistance of my mother. I was able to walk for an hour and felt really good. Slept through the night and woke this morning feeling amazing!! (This being day 6) So, my children and I went and ran some errands. I felt really good and remained very well hydrated. I didn't lift them they walked and are able to get in car seats alone. So, we stopped to get frozen yogurt at a really good shop that offers gluten free, sugar free yogurt. So, yes..... I ate some. Bc tomorrow I was suppose to be able to move to yogurts. I barley made it to the shop next door before I thought I was gonna die. I had horrible diarrhea and wasn't sure I could physically get back to my car after. But, I did with unknown strength! Decided maybe I needed some cold ice Water, went literally across the parking lot to sonic ordered Water and a drink for my children and it hit me again!!!!! (My poor kids!!!) So, I've had horrible nashua, abdominal pain and diarrhea since! I'm laying in bed just feeling like I failed myself and my kids and probably over did it! :( Worse part is........ I work for my surgeon..... Yes, I said it... This is a program I've helped others with for over 5 years!!! It's so hard being on the other side! Any advice I'll take.... Please!!!

I'm not sleeved yet but my sister has been sleeved for a year and a half and still cannot eat "sugar free" artificially sweetened foods. It goes straight through her. I wonder if there was artificial sweetener in the yoghurt.

I have a pretty bad intolerance for sugar alcohols (sorbitol, xylitol, mannitol, etc.). Can't handle aspartame either. Also lactose intolerant. It's possible you reacted to all those things as some people (from what i've read in here) can't after the surgery if not before (I haven't had surgery yet). You know the surgeon well - maybe he knows? :-) Is there a dietician on your team you can speak with?

Sugar alcohols are very common in "sugar free" sweets and they are extremely hard on the digestive system for anyone, let alone someone with a tiny, traumatized stomach. You learned a good lesson -- sweet food, even fake sweet food, should not be what you are trying to justify to yourself right now! Just put it off the menu of possibilities entirely for right now.

To make yourself maybe feel a little better, read the critical reviews on Amazon for sugar free Gummy bears (which contain sugar alcohols, like most sugar free yogurt). You are not alone in your suffering!

Yup....sugar alcohol is not fun for me, either.

My system doesn't handle it well at all.

Stick to staying hydrated and stick with your plan. It's going to work out perfectly for you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
