What to take to the hospital

Recommended Posts

So I just found out I got my insurance approval!!! And now I'm trying to get everything in order for the hospital. I don't have a date set as of yet all depends on how fast I meet my surgeons 15lbs loss requirement. I don't want to get there and feel like I forgot everything.

So far on my list

Fuzzy no slip socks

Lip balm

Charger

Pillow

Maybe my color book and markers

Not sure about your hospital....mine made me wear their no-slip socks.

I took stuff and didn't need it, but the gear that I was really glad to have:

1) Post-op pain med prescription filled for the ride home

2) pillow to hold against abdomen on the ride home

3) iphone

4) remote charger

The hospital I went to also made me wear their slippers. I brought my own pillow and a nice robe to wear over their funky gown. And my ipod with a couple of books on it, but I found I was too busy (really!) to listen to them. I walked a LOT and slept between walks. Also, bring a bottle of a premade Protein drink. They do not give you any Protein in the hospital, and you can only get a few sips in of the nasty bouillon Soup. You won't be able to drink much of your drink either (not shakes, something like Isopure) but a few sips, but that little bit of protein will really help you feel better. I was only in the hospital two days, so it wasn't very long. That is great idea about the lip balm, your mouth is very dry! Make sure you leave all your rings and such at home, my husband had to wear my wedding ring on his pinky while I was in surgery! haha. Good luck with your preop and your surgery!

I just had my sleeve done on 8/1/16 and it was done in Boston. The only thing I brought from home was lip balm. But I made sure there was a pillow in the car for the ride home. You will need it! Good luck!

My hospital gave all of the bariatric patients a "huggy bear" to hold against their abdomen . Nice idea.

I took:

chap stick

cell phone and charger

tooth brush/paste

my most feminine robe and slippers so I felt "purdy".

my favorite lotion so I didn't "smell like hospital"

my rosary--can't hurt

I went and bought a special pj set to wear after, cause no one wants to see my full moon doing circles around the nurses station lol. A huggy bear sounds nice maybe my hubby loves me enough to buy me a special stuffy :) I'll have to put a bird n his ear. Never can be too safe not to bring ur rosary. Thank you all for ur input, I'm always worked I'm gonna forget something

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
