New to the Post OP World

Recommended Posts

Hello! My name is Jackie I am 27 I started my Journey on April 1st 2016 at my highest weight of 442 lbs. I had my Gastric Bypass with a packed wound on July 26th 2016 with my weight being 400 lbs. After my 3 day hospital stay I came home and weighed in at 410 lbs :o Although this made me sad I knew it was due to all of the added gas and swelling. I am 5 days post op today and my weight is 397 lbs. I wanted to join this community to see how others manage all of these new changes and to share my own as well as it serving as a sort of... diary. Hopefully I can communicate with people who want the same. I'd love to share any info I might have that someone needs and I am open to any questions! I wish everyone the best on their new life!

Hi Jackie!

It sounds like we have a lot in common :) I'm 28, BMI in the upper 50s, and doing the bypass on 8/8. I didn't even think about the gas and swelling causing weight gain :( I bet that was a nasty surprise. It sounds like you did really well losing weight before the operation though. I'm struggling with that, myself. I think I'm going to try to weigh myself less, actually, and just try to trust that it will come off in its own time, as I make good choices. Otherwise, I think it's too easy for me to get obsessive about the numbers.

How are you tolerating the post-op diet so far? Are you doing the Protein drinks? I'm pretty nervous about what it will feel like to try to drink after surgery. Anyway, I hope you keep healing well. Stay strong!

Amy

Congratulations on beginning your journey. I wrote a short article that describes my experience with RNY gastric bypass surgery. I am 3 years post-op at this point. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Great article!!! You cover just about everything and I thank you for it. I'm 3 months post op and just started doing what you did with your clothing. Moved from 2xl to xl and have already purchased lathes to fit into.

So exciting...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
