Hello everyone.! I am still in the pre-op early phase. I've met with the surgeon last week 07/21/16. I start my first month of my 6 month waiting period required by my insurance in 2 weeks. 6 months seems like such a long time but I will be patient and absorb all the information and advice that will help prepare me for this life change. Any advice from those who had/have to wait 6 months or longer on how to remain patient and what to do in the meantime would be great.! :)

Hi. I started my 6 months waiting period in may with anticipated surgery in November. My focus have been on training myself to eat slower, reduced carbs, increased Protein, and increased exercise. Let's not forgot, increase Water. Simply put, I am preparing my mind and body for the BIG change. I am taking time to read everything I can find on VSG . .. the good, the bad, and the ugly. I downloaded the gastric sleeve book off of bariatric pal website. It has been instrumental in providing information from the beginning of the process to post op.

I was a little inpatient initially, but each time I met my nutritionist, I learned more of changes I needed to make; this allows me plenty of time to get my "house" in order.... mentally and physically. Good luck to you. Stay strong and stay uplifted.

Thank you for that.! I'm trying to look at the 6 month wait as an advantage and not a burden. Your reply has helped with that. Thanks again and good luck with your journey as well. You are off to an amazing start.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
