New and anxious!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!!! My name is Lisa. I'm new to this whole process! I had my initial consult 7/13, and my first nutritional consult 7/22. I have excellUs BCBS NY. A bit about myself...I am 31, my BMI is 35.4! I have had diabetes and hypertension for 21 years. I had a heart attack 6 years ago at age 25. I also have high cholesterol, PCOS, metabolic syndrome and GERD. I need the roux en y for these medical ailments as well as weight loss! I work in thr operating room and participate in these procedures weekly! I love it and it doesn't scare me at all (thank goodness). I spoke with the surgeon who says im pretty much a shoe in as long as my BMI is 35! All my doctors have written letters of support and my previous PCP wrote a diet history attempts at weight loss letter...spoke to the surgical coordinator at work and she says I won't need to do the monitored weight loss and could potentially have surgery in October! Holy smokes!!!! Anyone have a similar experience??? This all seems to be happening soooooo fast!!! I see the surgeon officially on August 10th! Any helpful hints???

My insurance company required a 6 month medically monitored diet and exercise program prior to approval. I am 3 years post op RNY gastric bypass surgery. Prior to surgery I had high blood pressure and diabetes and took 4 types of medicine to treat these conditions. Within 2 weeks after surgery, these conditions went into remission and stayed there. I also had severe acid reflux (GERD) and that condition went into remission also.

I don't know about PCOS and metabolic syndrome. I have seen a few threads where these conditions may sabotage the weight loss and health benefits after surgery so you may want to look into how surgery affects these conditions.

Heart attack at age 25, that is simply terrible. May you live to be 100.

Congratulations! Your BMI is very low for weight loss surgery. In addition to a 6 mo supervised diet through my primary, I also had to have various tests (stress, pulmonary, colonoscopy) as well as a Pysch Eval to be approved by Insurance company, they are the final approval (at least from what I know here in the States). Good luck to you!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
