Question about the feeling after eating..

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am 2 weeks post op, sleeved on July 9, and every time I eat something like Soup of what not, I get this feeling in my chest. Not burning, but feels like a mixture between being really hungry, really full and that food is stuck there. What is this? Is my food not liquid enough for my liquid phase? Or am I just full? Am I not tolerating the food I'm eating?

Please help!!

You're still swollen. Try smaller spoonfuls....you also may want to thin it down a bit. If you are on full liquids whatever food you're trying should be liquid with no solid at all. Just go very slow. Measure your food and at your stage you should only attempt about a quarter cup to a half cup at a time.

I hope the above suggestion help. Know that it gets better each day. Good luck to you!!!

I get this feeling also. Mainly when I drink cold Water. Almost like my esophagus has gotten smaller! It passes quickly. I think its just our bodies still healing. Congrats my fellow sleever! I was sleeved July 15th.

Remember pea sized bites ..chew each 30 times...spend 30-45 minutes eating your 3-4 ounces of food. You are still swollen and you also need to figure out your bodies new signals from your sleeve that you are not behaving..small slow chewed well bites. I am 4 months out. I get that feeling if i eat too fast or take a gulp of Water even. It will get better and if you are smarter than me you will quickly retrain yourself to eat correctly for your brand new tummy.

As others have said....you are still swollen and nerves are healing.

Things feel (and sound) really different now.

It'll pass as you heal.

I avoided much of this weirdness by sticking with Protein shakes for four weeks and then being cleared to advance to very soft Proteins. Flakey white fish being the biggest food source for me to start with.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
