Hello everyone, I got sleeved on 8/5. Exactly 3 weeks ago. I have recovered so quickly, it is almost ridiculous. I was only really miserable right after waking up from my surgery and the few hours afterwards. I stayed in hospital for 2 days where I was on anti-nausea medication and painkillers. As soon I got home I was able to switch to regular solid  food (which I chew really well) . I love the sensation of getting full and leaving food on my plate. This had never happened before in my entire life! It is so empowering and liberating...

But I can't sleep at night despite keeping active during the day. I have sleep apnea so I continue to use my beloved CPAP machine but I still can't sleep--I go for long walks or cycle in the afternoons. I go to bed around 9:30 PM or 10:00 PM but I am up until 3 AM or sometimes 4 AM, tossing and turning. My insomnia also leads to late night eating. I have eaten nuts and yogurt, feeling very guilty. As a result my weight loss has slowed down. I have only lost 10 lb in the 3 weeks since my surgery (I'm 5.8" and weighed 258.5 on day of surgery. BMI 38).

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Much thanks!

I had terrible insomnia after surgery as well. I had gastric bypass...from what I've read it's normal due to all the changes going on in your body...my doctor/surgeon reccomended Melatonin(fast dissolve) I was skeptical at first but I tried it and now I take it every night...I sleep for a good 8 hours...I understand what you are going through...give the melatonin a try...let me know how it works for you.. good luck!

@@Lewiswife Thank you so much for your advice!! I got Melatonin (10 mg fast dissolve). I have been taking it for the past 3 nights and it is working great. I fall asleep really quickly. I do wake up in the middle of the night but can go back to sleep again fairly quickly.

Thanks so much again!! :)

Felt the same way, had a very hard time sleeping and staying asleep. Not sure if it's my body needing less sleep or what. Now I am finding myself waking up a lot earlier than I used to and able to stay awake and alert.

@@Lewiswife oh my goodness yes, in very fresh post-op stage, thought I was going to lose my mind. Started right after surgery for me (nothing like walking those hospital hallways at 3am, eh?), and continued for 2 weeks. I was getting nervous because I was returning to work a little over 2 weeks after surgery, and I knew I wouldn't even be able to function all day if that wacky sleep schedule kept up. But....fortunately (or unfortunately) my job is constantly busy and quite stressful, so needless to say, that CURED me of having problems sleeping at night -_- . Then I went in the total opposite direction for a couple weeks....would get home from work and often would fall asleep and stay asleep for easily 10 hours a night (big thanks to my hubby and kids for being understanding). Now, it's all balanced out really well. I'm able to be awake until a more "appropriate" bedtime (one that actually allows me to get in time for exercise, and, well, being a functioning part of my family), and I rarely have trouble sleeping through the night anymore.

Hope it all balances out again for you too!

Please be careful with what you are eating. Nuts can cause significant complications. You usually aren't allowed nuts or seeds for 6-8 weeks.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
