Anthem BCBS Appeal

Recommended Posts

I did not have sleep apnea... yet. Had a study done about 10 years ago that was "inconclusive". I was not required to attend NUT classes, but our Bariatric Care Center offers free twice-monthly support group meetings with the staff Nutritionist and monthly info mtgs with the surgeon. I voluntarily attended these for almost a year, just to learn as much as I could. At the end of the 6 mo dr-supervised wt loss requirement, BCBS issued a "certification" that was valid for 13 months.

I'm going through the same thing with BCBSIL, I'm in the 30 day waiting period too. They don't want to cover a revision due to severe GERD or my hernia repair.

@@middlebeaver what did you put to. Finally have them approve? Because they are not wanting to budge for nothing.

Unfortunately if they deem it not medically necessary, especially a revision, they won't approve. I'm sorry I went through this 2 years ago. They won't cover 2 procedures at all. It's listed under the qualifications for the surgery

My insurance (UHC) denied me "medically unnecessary".... I did the Appeal myself before the surgeons even got word that I was denied!! On the last week (of the 30days) I called back to find I was approved!!! Yaaaaay!!

Got my surgery date today!!! It's gonna be 11/21/16! Can't wait!!!

For ANYONE who got denied or is on their way....you are correct ...the only thing you can do is: Fight, fight, fight!!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
