It was me on the TLC show "my FAT saved my life"

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. Yup that was me, Kimberly, on that show. But when they filmed the show in August of 2015. I was about 145-150. I was so happy at that weight. BUT...... Now almost one year later, I am at 127. I moved from MA, to OR a few months ago and I was 149. Then on June 8, 2016, I was down to 135. OK. Went to the doctors appointment yesterday and I am now 127. I am 5'8" and I look sick. My new doctor was actually accusing me of starving myself. That is so not true. I got 3 ulcers from the gastric bypass surgery and it is so painful to eat. My bones ate sticking out. I am trying to find a new bariatric surgeon. I just don't know what to do. I still see the 301 pound person in the mirror. I am using Unjury again. I am so sick of them. It was 3 years on June 25, 2016. I don't know why my body is doing this to me? If there is anyone out there who has been there. Any and ALL suggestions I would really appreciate advise. I have other medical issues as well. I love this forum. It helped me through some tough times. I need help from my greatest support family. Thanks in advance. P.S. TLC found me on this site, somehow for the show. I would like to be able to be around 140-145, again. Thanks, again for ALL the love!

It may be that your medical issues are causing your continued weight loss and that if those issues are treated or corrected all will fall into place. This article describes my approach to the Maintenance phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf

I am almost your height. We had surgery at almost the same time. I dropped down to near 140 but then decided that the best weight to maintain was 150 (the high side of normal after reviewing the mortality tables). So that is where I am now. It wasn't hard for me to gain some weight back. Sugar was my kryptonite. The holiday season was upon me and I partook of a few Cookies, candies and cakes and then I was 150. But sugar is my addiction and I had to go cold turkey after the holidays and that was easier said than done. So I am not sure that would be the approach to use in your case especially because I don't know what other conditions you are battling.

Sorry, but i am curious.... why are you using Protein shakes at 3 years out?

Can you give us an idea of what you are consuming daily? Macros? Calories?

I haven't seen that show. I'll have to look for it.

Were you sleeved or did you have the bypass?

What do your labs look like?

Why are you using Protein shakes? If you need them you may need to switch to something with higher carbs in order to slow or reverse the weight loss.

How are you doing at getting in all of your Protein? Are you still tracking your food? How much are you eating?

Have you talked to a NUT lately about your concerns?

Are you seeing a therapist? I know body dysmorphia can be common with rapid weight loss. A good therapist should be able to help you with this.

Are you receiving treatment for the ulcers?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
