First night home and need help!

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done on Tues the 12th and this is my first night home. I just woke up with horrible burning like reflux, some nausea and my whole body is flushed. No fever. I took 2 tums and a zofran, but it's too soon to know if it will help. Any other advice? I'm scared to drink Water right now.

Have some milk to ease the burn... that should help until the meds kick in..... Water will probably help it too.. try and see how you feel

I couldn't have milk (skim) until my second week, so I'd say opt for Water to be on the safe side.

Really? I've never heard that before.... milk is even thinner than a Protein shake. Were you guys allowed to have Protein shakes during your first week?

My plan was a lot more relaxed.. we were allowed purees from when we were discharged from hospital

Are you on a PPI like omeprazole (Prilosec), nexxium, or Protonix? Many sleevers develop acid reflux post op and they need a strong PPI to prevent it (more than Tums). You should get in touch with your surgeon's office and see if that is what they recommend.

Thanks all. No milk yet on my plan. The burning has lessened some. Just took my first PPI dose. I'm getting worried about my Fluid intake. I've had 100cc over the last 2 hrs. Every sip is followed by sooo much gurgling and an unsettled feeling. Does that sound about right for this phase? Do I just force the fluids passed that? I'm going to call my MDs office when they open but I don't want to get too far behind.

Thats a good idea.... ask your dr... I'm actually suprised that both of your plans do not allow milk... out of curiosity... what are you supposed to be having? Just Water?... even in hospital we were having milk & thin yoghurt.. its amazing how different plans are!

The gurgling is normal... and even till now i still get gurgling... have you tried different temperatures?

Do not force it to the point you are in pain... try smaller sips, different temps.. and if your plan allows it... some flavouring to break the surface area of the Water.< /p>

When i was first sleeved, i couldn't drink tap water, it was too harsh... so i stuck to bottled water for around 3 weeks.. and added mint and a little lemon to soften it

I can have Clear Liquids only, no Protein Shakes until day 7. So, plain or flavored water, broth, Popsicles etc. but I've only tried water so far. Nothing appeals to me yet. thanks for the tips.

Ah okay... that makes more sense to me now.... i was wondering why a surgeon would allow Protein shakes and not milk...

Try the broth.. the warmer temp might be easier... and itll help keep you hydrated... keep us posted on what the doc says

I was sleeved 7/6. Reflux hit me 2 days after. I couldn't lay down flat in bed coz the reflux was that bad. Fast forward one week post op, taking my PPI and the reflux only happens when I'm getting hungry.

Point is, it'll get better just take your PPI and sip that Water [emoji3]

@@MarieLouise I had the exact same thing happen night 2 in the hospital...felt awful and it really put me in panic mode. It passed by the next day, thankfully. Even though acid was not a problem pre-surgery, I am on prilosec for (at least) 90 days.

My Dr had me on chewable Pepsid for the first few weeks post op.

I'm glad things got better.

Ask the doctor's office for a number to call 24/7 in the future. I had the nurses in the hospital surgical floor as primary and my insurance company's 24/7 nurse hotline secondary. You should have someplace for help better than this site when you are in a medical situation.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
