First Time Out Drinking

Recommended Posts

I think this forum is giving me an ulcer. Some people seem so angry, like chill out. The world is not coming to an end. I don't see anything wrong with someone making a post about their experience with alcohol. I don't see the person asking for advice or tips, but some folks just don't have enough self control to keep scrolling. If u don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.

Its their sleeve!!! Did u pay for it??? Well zip it!!!

Can I just be clear, Look at my profile and check the posts and responses I make, they are all positive, uplifting, supportive and coming from a warm place. I come on to this forum to build people UP and share this experience with people going through a similar circumstance.

Now I don't know if years after the surgery you become jaded, and a little bit sick of the same questions on this forum but this is new for us, we are learning to walk and find our feet again with this whole process. I will not tolerate this behaviour, vet or not it's bullying in my eyes.

I was told by my doctor I could drink at 6 weeks, I have not deviated from my meal plans, I have lost 43 pounds in 7 weeks.. I'm doing something right. The original poster asked a question about alcohol consumption, I shared my personal experience and said that I haven't had any problems.. Everyone is different, but this is what a forum is about.

What I will not tolerate is newbies posting a question or response and then fearing one of the vets will attempt to embarrass, humiliate, or ridicule them for being new to the process and inexperienced.. We all appreciate your personal journey, and your story.. But it's just that, YOUR story, there are ways to express your concerns without upsetting others. I'm here to support people and spread positivity, it's a shame I can't say the same for a lot of others.

You have personally attacked me TWICE -- both times when I was supportive of your decision to act in a manner that I wouldn't necessarily choose for myself, but you are not me, so who am I to tell you differently?

Neither time was I being "sarcastic, bitchy, or unpleasant". I wasn't trying to "embarrass, humiliate or ridicule" you for your choice. In fact, I told you to rock on.

What am I missing? It seems to me that you are being defensive when it's truly not needed. If that's your idea of being "positive, warm, uplifting and coming from a warm place", you might want to reexamine those definitions.

Best of luck on your journey.

(Do you know how to block me? If not, I'm happy to help you do it.)

It takes time to heal from a MAJOR surgery. Alcohol does not aid in the healing process. Besides the possible surgical complications, there's also a risk for transfer addiction. Everything in moderation sure, but seems to me like if we were all experts at moderating ourselves we wouldn't be here in the first place [emoji848]. I'd much rather see the vets, supposedly mean and sarcastic, stick around than have to coddle people who just want to be enabled.

Nobody is obligated to weigh in on every topic or coddle anyone. If someone wants to post something ridiculous, let them, and learn to ignore it. Take what you want and leave the rest.

I was told no soda EVER. Take a balloon put it over a soda bottle and give it a little jiggle. Do you want your new sleeve all stretched out? That being said, my first drink at 6 months will be a pina colada :D

@@TYRey12,

Yes, that sounds about right! Your body metabolizes alcohol faster, and a little goes a long way. Good for you for noticing and for adjusting your intake to stay safe.

So I'm 16 days post op. I was out last night with a group of parents. Our 15 and 16 year olds were in baseball tournaments for the past 4 days. Last night coaches bday its our time. Some of the parents went out and bought drinks. No one knows I had the surgery.

I poured a 8 oz cup of grey goose and pineapple orange juice. I pretended to sip until someone called me out. I started sneaking and pouring my drink on the ground we were on the hotel patio.

Finally i quietly walked over to my hubby and begged him to drink it for me.

One of the moms imitated me to a tee and jokingly accused me of telling my husband to take one for the team.

I was embarrassed... but didn't take one sip.

To each it's own. That's my personal choice NOT to drink at this time.

Do you! Just be careful and very mindful that alcohol can be a barrier during weight loss. I'm sure an occasional cocktail at a concert or a night out should be ok take it slow and keep it at a minimum.

A grown ass adult tried to pressure you into drinking? Seriously?

And if you don't want a drink, don't take one. You are the boss of you.

That's true @@LipstickLady and I know it's silly. Really it is. I have indulged in the past with a few of the couples at various times so I guess it just seemed odd that I wasn't drinking and I didnt want to have to explain so I just pretended to drink.

We were supposed to hang out until all the alcohol was gone. Every couple had a bottle... next time I'll probably just say no. It's really silly to go through all that.

I've been known to moon people at parties occasionally. Doesn't mean I do it every time. ;)

Don't give away your power. If they ask you why you aren't drinking, tell 'em you don't want to. If they are judging you for NOT drinking, you need to hang with a better class of people. They don't deserve your time.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
