Fill or No Fill if you had NSV?

I thought that the relationship between losing weight/appetite level/clothing size was straight forward, but now I'm confused and need perspective.

As a 3-month post-op, I only had 1 fill so far and I wanted to get my second fill since it took me 1 week just to lose 1 pound, and then I remained the same weight for another week. My surgeon said I should come in for another fill once my weight loss stalls. I am feeling hungrier, but I still only eat once or twice a day. When I'm hungry I try ignore the sensation as long as possible. Part of me feels that if I get a second fill it just might be too tight for me to eat anything, or it'll take away the hunger sensation like I felt in the first post-op month.

Since last week I also had NSV. When I went to buy work uniforms the salesperson took out size M when I asked for L, and it fit! Even in highschool (before the weight gain of my mid 20s) I always wore size L, but the number on the scale doesn't seem to match this newer clothing size. I'm still 41 pounds over my goal weight. My bra band size is also down another 2 inches since the measurement was taken. (I can't exactly remember my previous waist size measurement, I need to write this stuff down!)

I'm also moving to a new place soon that's a 4.5 hours drive away, so I'd like your input on whether I should go ahead and squeeze in an appointment for a second fill or just wait longer once there's no other noticeable NSV. bmi.png

I have a sleeve and not a lapband so take this for what it is worth:

Why in the world are you only eating once or twice a day and trying to starve yourself?

I am not aware that that is a healthy or effective strategy for losing weight and being healthy.

You still need nutrition. You need Protein and fluids. You need to keep your metabolism running optimally.

I highly recommend that you make an appointment with your NUT. Your strategy does not sound sustainable, healthy, or effective.

I have a lapband and I agree with @Inner Surfer Gal. Make sure you are eating correctly. Also...discuss another fill with the doctor. And lastly...don't live and die with the number on the scale. How clothing fits is a better indicator as you can already see.

I, too, find it problematic that you're starving yourself and then eating only when you can't handle the hunger anymore, only eating once or twice a day. That's not a healthy weight loss strategy.

Anyway, I'd talk to your surgeon about how you're feeling and let him decide whether or not you need another fill. I'm assuming you're seeing a NUT. Take your food journal to your next appointment and they can better advise you on how to eat properly to lose weight without wrecking your metabolism.

I have a lap band and I eat several times a day because my stomach cannot hold much food. I'm not losing rapidly but I'm losing steadily. I expect my complete weight loss journey to take a couple years and I'm okay with that. I would love for this excess 130 pounds to fall off in a few months but that just ain't gonna happen. The lap band is not intended for rapid weight loss but it WILL work over time. Patience, my friend.

Thanks everyone. I have an appointment to see my surgeon tomorrow. My next dilemma is that I'm moving 4.5 hours away this weekend and I'll need a new surgeon for follow ups.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
