Never have I ever been too happy to start my period!

Recommended Posts

Hi all. In all of the investigation and research, I have never felt the need to share much. But woo hoo, this week has been a roller coaster.

My investigation into bariatric surgery began in April of this year with a chance catch at the bottom of my insurance coverage. Read my thoughts in bold:

Services Your Plan Does NOT Cover (This isn’t a complete list. Check your policy or plan document for other excluded services.)
*Cosmetic surgery (unless reconstructive) - well craptasic applesauce, this melasma mustache isn't going anywhere. Google it.
*Dental care (Adult) - cool, I have dental.
*Routine foot care (limited coverage may apply) - k?
*Infertility treatment (limited coverage may apply) - good? Babies at 40 aren't my thing.
*Weight loss programs - da fu? Really. Not even when you can track success and follow a plan, huh?
*Long-term care - getting old in America is going to suck. Good thing my husband came with a kid and he likes me more.

Other Covered Services (This isn’t a complete list. Check your policy or plan document.)
*Hearing aids - hmmm.
*Private-duty nursing - hmmm.
*Routine eye care (Adult) - nice.
*Non-emergency care when traveling outside the U.S. - Is my passport current?
*Acupuncture - this is progressive. Nice.
*Bariatric (preauthorization required) - hmmm.
*Chiropractic care - CRACK! ... Wait, what was that last one?

Mention to my mom,"hey think my insurance has good coverage for bariatric surgery. Like, maybe the deductible and that's it." (Shoulder shrug) And BAM, the ball gets rolling. PCP calls. Centers of excellence calls. Appointments start. I tell random strangers what to do with me if I am in a vegetative state. My husband asks, "are you sure?" Yep. Schedule. Over schedule. Cancel. Try and find a willing doc for the psych evaluation. Call after call. sleep eval. Endoscopy. (BTW I can't handle any opiate without vomit.) I have cramps. Call from the care coordinator, "sending you stuff through, but your sleep eval issue?" Huh? Magic same night cpap appointment available.

BUT Not even worried. It will happen when it happens. Delays are no biggie. I can adjust schedules based on surgery date. Find sitters. Breathe. No rush. This is a big deal. Hell, I'm not even approved. Ummm. Where is my period? Seriously. I have an app for that. Where is it? It's never late. I am taking calls from intake doctors. Yep, everything is normal. Calls from appointment setters. Yes, that will work just fine. (8/16 BTW). But, where is my period?!?!? When I got married and was asked the inevitable, " when are you going to have a baby?" (Which is a question that deserves a punch in the face, BTW.) I always responded with, "it'll be by accident." Well hell, not this week! Not 4 years later. My goodness, The doctor stopped mid interview and asked, " you know you can get pregnant without using protection?" Duh (with an eye roll). And so begins my penance. No damn blood.

BUT today was a crampy, blessed miracle. Thank the sweet baby jesus I do not personally believe in. I started my period.

Happy Saturday y'all. I hope yours rocked as much as mine.

Wow.... That's a lot.

I was terrified that my period would start during surgery or my stay in the hospital! It did not but BOOM 2nd night at home it starts. I'm afraid to use my normal go to - tampons so I'm in heavy duty pads and I'm miserable. I have fibroids and very heavy flow so this is really not fun for me.

I hope things improve for you. Sorry for the TMI I've been dying to tell someone. Lol

One thing I am thankful for, is that my team allowed me to keep my bc before my surgery. I use the implant and they would not put another one in for at least two years. My gyno is amazing; she talked to a hematologist and my surgeon and convinced them that my Nexplanon implant was fine. The last thing I want to worry about is getting pregnant in this stage of my life. I want kids and half the reason why I'm going through this is so I can be healthy enough for children (my doctor discouraged it because of my volatile diabetes).

When I came home I got what I call my "mini-period". I spot for a few days and that is it. Another reason I love this bc.

On another note, your coverage sounds very similar to mine, except for the dental. Though my dental is pretty pathetic and I haven't even tried to use it yet.

I started my period in the hospital, again after 2 weeks, and then again last week. I have had tubal ligation, but I take BCP for cycle regularity and less bleeding with fibroids. This has been insane; my hormones must be really wacked.

@

I had the same thing....for years. Fibroids causing big problems. Finally I went to a new ob/gyn who said, you are not having any more children as you had your tubes tied 20+ years ago. Why don't you consider a hysterectomy?

I said, sign me up now please!!!! That was another surgery that felt like Christmas morning! Ha. Although they left my ovaries and now I am 53 and in the worst phase of menopause. Hot flashes about 50 times a day.

I am either bundled in blankets because I am thin and cold or I have a fan blasting me in the face to control the spontaneous combustion going on in my body.

If only they could figure out a way to allow you to skip menopause!

I thought I was going to die laughing in my cubicle while reading this! I first applied for Gastric Bypass over a year ago, but decided I really wanted to try and get pregnant and knew I had to wait 18 months after surgery to try again, so I changed my mind and went to a fertility specialist. After 6 months of EXCRUCIATING hormone/fertility therapy I threw in the towel and decided to go a different direction & went back to the Bariatric Center. Now here I am, in the final stretch, still having no period due to PCOS, telling my husband I'm gonna strangle him if I end up pregnant before surgery and went thru all this for nothing! Crazy how 1 year can change a mindset hehe.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
