Good morning everyone. I was wondering if anyone nerves started getting to them before surgery? The closer I get the more anxiety I'm having. My official date is August 11. Just about a month out.. I'm not having second thoughts just very very very nervous. Not sure why or what to do. Any advice???[emoji16] [emoji16]

Hello! August 17th will be one year since my bypass. :) I was certainly nervous before surgery! Not just nervous, by impatient, excited, and generally just in a state of overexcitement for weeks leading up to it. You'd be crazy if you were utterly calm! I dealt with it by being as prepared as I could possibly be. I watched probably hundreds of hours of videos on youtube by people from every stage before and after surgery. I read basically this entire site. I participated in discussions, asked questions. I made sure I had all my shakes/vitamins/etc prepared. That not only kept me busy but really soothed the intense emotions I was dealing with leading up to surgery. You've got this! Hang in there, soon you'll be on the other side, and soon after that you'll be a year out and living a normal, healthy life. :) Feel free to stop by my page and message me if there is anything I can help you with.

I would be shocked if anyone responds with anything other than yes, everyone gets nervous before this type of surgery. It changes your life and change is always scary. Plus, you tend to let your head run away with worry, it is normal.

I leveraged deep breathing, lovely baths, listening to music through headphones that soothed me. By the time I got to the morning of my surgery I was no longer anxious I was so ready that it felt like Christmas morning as a kid.

You can control your frame of mind by relaxing, being good to yourself and focusing on all of the reasons you are giving your self this gift.

Having this surgery was the best thing I have ever done for myself and I thank goodness everyday that there are doctors and nurses that have learned how to help someone who is obese like me.

You will do great, just try to relax. Take a few minutes and breathe deeply an you will be surprised how calming this can be.

I definitely became nervous as my surgery grew closer, and on the morning of the procedure I had a few tears.

Although I have no regrets so far at 6 months post op.

I'm new to post here, been reading for a while.

I'm nervous, too-my surgery is in 4 days (7/18). I appreciate the previous posters' words of encouragement & support. Reading the old post (2013) of what to bring to the hospital was really helpful. I, too, have pored over all the youtube videos re: RYGB. I think I'm as prepared as possible.

Now I guess it'll be hot baths & good music for me, waiting until THE day.

I have the same day. I'm super nervous. I only have a 2 day pre op liquid diet and 10 day post op clear liquid diet. I feel I might have rushed into this but I think it's the anxiety and fear of not Having a normal life afterwards.

My surgery is Aug. 2., and I hear you about the nerves. When they get to be too much, I try to remind myself that this will be my "new" normal and it's to keep myself healthy and keep my BP, cholesterol, sugar and other lab values "normal" and have a better life. It's too teach and help me eat the way an average, healthy person eats. Not immediately, but not too far in the future, we will be able to eat more of a variety without incidence and be so much more active. Try picking up just a 50lb. child and walk up a single flight of stairs. It will hit you hard how your body is working every minute of the day to carry around that extra weight and imagine what a relief it will be to get rid of it forever. Now is the time to work on mind over matter, it will be a valuable tool post surgery.

Yes, all I have to say is while I was at the hospital it felt like I was in more pain then I have been since I got home. At home I feel so much better, I slept well and been resting. Now I'm just really thirsty but other than that I feel better! :)

I'm scheduled for 12 days after you so please keep us updated. I'm a nervous wreck already so I can only imagine how I will be in 2-3 more weeks.

I am 8 days pre-op and I'm not as much nervous as excited. Plus I can't wait for the time off work! ???? The liquid diet has me feeling great. I really can't wait to do this! #noregrets

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
