Preop Liquid diet--diarrhea

Recommended Posts

I know it's TMI, but I just started my preop diet today and I have been in the restroom constantly, is anyone having this problem or had this problem? Tell me I'm not alone lol.

Yep... it was pretty bad for a few days there, but it got better... just stick with it. You will likely experience the opposite after surgery, i.e. nothing moving.

Yes I did! I remember rolling in to the operating room and telling the guy pushing the gurney that I wish I had taken an Immodium!

I share your same situation. One week before my surgery. We can do this. I had a nasty taste in my mouth, too. Finally took tums at bedtime, taste is gone; back to the liquids this morning.

Ketosis breath... nasty stuff.

How are you doing on the Bariatric Advantage Protein powder? I had a tough time with that stuff... could not get a handle on the taste/smell. Bought two bags from the clinic, only made it through 3/4 of a bag of chocolate. Ended up switching over to the Premier Protein ready to drink shakes post-op.

Hell I'm 7 days post op and I still have diarrhea. Its comes from not eating anything solid so your body absorbs the nutrients it needs and rids itself of what it doesn't need.

I'm sorry you are going through this, I didn't have any problem with the liquid diet. I thought I would but 2 days into it I was surprised about how easy it was and how good I felt. I am now 10 days post surgery and in on phase 2/puréed foods until next Tuesday when I progress again. Every step is worth it!

If you don't mind me asking, for your liquids diet what are you taking, I'm waiting for my insurance approval and I'm just trying to prepare for all this. And how long do you have to be on the liquid diet

sugar free popsicles, low to no sodium chicken broth (you don't want high blood pressure ), Protein shakes, skim, soy or unsweetened almond milk, Water of course, and sugar free jello! That's all I can think of.

Oops I didn't see that you were asking the original poster that question. My mistake.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
