Hello, I am four days post op and have a severe case of cottonmouth. I am drinking plenty of liquids and brushing my teeth often, but can't seem to get rid of it! Anyone else have problems with this?:help:

Hi,

What is cottonmouth sorry? I am from Australia and i have never heard of it. If i knew what it was i might be able to suggest something...

I hope it goes away quickly.

I dont know what cotton mouth is but I had what I call a furry mouth and my teeth drove me mad, like I had a coating on them. I thought it was just me and maybe the Soup was coating my teeth I never brushed them. I had my op 28th June 07 and I can say it goes.

"cotton mouth" is when your mouth is so dry it feels as though it's been dried out with cotton and IF you can manage to drum up enough saliva to spit, it comes out like a poofy, white cotton ball.

Actually -- it was a constant PRE-SURGERY condtion for me, but (a) I've weaned myself off of sinus meds I'd been dependant on for years and (:car: I'm more hydrated than I've ever been -- so I'm not having that problem NOW.

Feel for those who are. It's SO annoying.

They give you a pre-op medication called Robinul to dry up secretions during surgery. IT'S AWFUL! Worst dry mouth I've ever had.

I would call your dentist and talk to him/her and see what is suggested. See if you can use an over the counter mouth moisturizer called Oral Balance. Maybe stay away from mouth rinses that have alcohol in them too. Carry a bottle of Water with you to take sips of it to moisurize your mouth.

Also certain medicines given for nausea can result in a very dry mouth. I had a scolopine (sp?) patch and got immediate relief once I took it off.

You might want to try Biotene, we get it from Walmart or our local pharmacy. It is always on the lowest shelf, below the Scope on Listerine, so you might not have ever seen it before. My husband has sleep apnea and his doctor recommended it for his cotton mouth.

I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-op and I was cotton mouthed for about 3 weeks post-op. The Doctor told me it was because I was dehydrated, even though I was drinking about 2-3 times the amount of Water that was prescribed. My tongue was white and crusty and I had a coating on my teeth no matter how many times I brushed them. I just persisted with the liquids and it finally got better. John

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
