First Surgeon Consult Next Week - Weigh In Expectations?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I have my first appointment with a surgeon for an initial consult. I attended a seminar at the end of May and was originally thinking I would go with a gastric sleeve but after a lot of thought and soul searching, I have decided to pursue an RNY instead. I am super nervous about seeing a new doc, I have had the same PCP for years. Do we have to strip down naked for our initial weigh in? I am very body-conscious and find the thought of being nude in front of strangers absolutely horrifying!! :(

Have any of you had to be weighed in the nude? Do they allow you to remain clothed, or at a minimum, at least a gown?

Thanks so much in advance!!!

@@amber2.0 You will be weighed clothed. I didn't even undress during my 1st Consult. There's not many Drs that have someone undress completely (even during an exam you'd have a gown). Do not worry - it's an easy visit!

No strip down during initial weigh in. I just removed everything in my pockets and my shoes to remove a little extra weight. Sometimes they even frown on having you remove your shoes.

Oh my goodness thank you both!! I know it probably seems so silly but I have been on the verge of a panic attack worrying over this! >.<

I haven't seen a new doctor in years, I am just so mortified by my extra weight and what it has done to my body. I am hoping I will be out cold before they lift my gown (or whatever they do!?) to operate.

I can rest easy knowing I won't be baring too much skin at this consult! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
