Not losing on pre op diet

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had an issue with losing weight on the pre op diet? I've. Been on it since June 2 and went today for pre op and have not lost weight. Dr talked about postponing the surgery and keeping me on the liquid diet but after we talked said he would do the surgery as long as my liver had shrunk.

If I have not lost on the pre op diet I'm worried about the liver thing.

Honestly I've not cheated. I was told I could have cucumbers and celery and I've maybe had more of that than I should have once or twice but other than that nothing...

Anyone?? This is really concerning me because it doesn't make sense...

No.. I mean I have not been "regular" at all and I assumed that was bc of the liquids and no "food".

Oh and to top it off.. Surgery is scheduled for this Thursday so I'm now worried that my liver hasn't shrunk..I'm starting my 48 hour pure liquid diet a day early to hopefully help but I'm not sure if it will or not.

I didn't really lose weight on my pre-op diet. Mainly because it was like 100 degrees the whole time and I was retaining Water.

If you really aren't eating carbs, your liver is going to shrink.

I lost less than 7 pounds pre-op and my liver was fine.

Constipation can cause you to hold Water on top of the weight of the BM.

I didn't have a pre-op diet, so I am afraid I'm not much help other than this. I hope everything goes well for you to have your surgery.

I would take something for Constipation. If you're eating cucumbers and celery, you should be having a BM. Avoid sodium during the liquid only phase. Drink alot and then some more! ???? I'm sure that your liver has shrunk if you stuck to the diet. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
