I'm one week pre op and I'm so nervous! I keep wondering how bad recovery might be and if I can really deal with the pain. I try to tell myself that I've birthed 3 children (2 naturally) and had 2 other abdominal surgeries. A friends' daughter is having her surgery today and I've told her not to tell me anything about it! Did anyone else feel this nervous? Wonder if you were doing the right thing?

I'm there but have been trying to keep myself busy to avoid thinking about it. My husbands keeps saying that I should be happy but its hard to explain that I am happy, and nervous all at once. I am getting better though..my surgery is on Thursday. I think part of my problem is that I have some disappointment in myself. My body is NOT reacting to the pre-op diet as most everyone else's is. I even gained a few lbs a couple days ago, and lost them again....it is just being really stubborn. BUT I am reminding myself that this is why I am having this surgery :)

Good luck on your upcoming special day!!

The pre-op diet is not about losing weight. It takes time to adjust and show any weight loss anyway. You are going to do great!!!

I haven't had WLS yet but don't let the pain concern you - that's what pain meds are for. The gas pains are uncomfortable but walking helps. Good luck!!! Stay strong!

I attended a Bariatric orientation and my Doctor advised that two patients lost 2lbs. on the pre op diet, so he cancelled their surgery. I am soooooooo nervous going on this pre op diet(June 21st). I do not want my surgery to be cancelled.

Are you on a liquid diet? I am and have dropped 6 lbs in 3 days.

Thanks KristenLe:

The pre-op is not about loosing a lot of weight, my concern is that My Surgeon informed me that I needed to loose 10lbs prior to surgery. That is the weight I am referring to as I have heard of some patients actually getting turned away because they didn't get down to the # the Dr. set for them. I certainly don't want that to be me. I'm not stressing about it because on a lighter note I haven't gained any! but we'll see how my Dr.s reacts to it at my pre-op and weigh-in on Wednesday.

Also, I think everyone's pre-surgery process is different but this is how mine is with my clinic.

Day 3 will be your worse day but I promise you every day you will feel so much better than the previous. My only regret is that I wish I would have stayed 2 nights in the hospital instead of 1 just to get me through that 3rd day. But be sure to get up and walk as much as you can believe it or not it makes such a difference!! I also took gas x strips with me to the hospital and took them after my surgery and they helped a lot with the gas pain. Just be sure to get the strips nots the pills. You'll be suprised how much better you will feel every day.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
