Finally revised from band to sleeve!

Recommended Posts

After 9 long months of jumping through hoops to get approved by insurance, I finally got through surgery! For my lap band I just went home after surgery. With my sleeve I stayed in the hospital for two nights. While having its share of annoyances, I thought staying in the hospital had several advantages such as always having someone there to take care of you and being able to catch any medical problems that might arise.

When I had my lap band I wasn't able to pee for days and when I finally called my doc's office they instructed me that I should go to the ER to get a catheter put in. I had not idea how dangerous it was not to urinate after surgery. However, when this same thing happened to me in the hospital they caught it early and worked with my right away to take care of the problem.

Some other general thoughts on both surgeries: While both surgeries left my abdomen very sore, the revision to sleeve left me with less internal pain from swallowing, burping etc. When I had my band I felt like I needed to burp for days and it was super uncomfortable.

Also, with the band, I could tell when I needed to slow down drinking because I would immediately be in pain or feel like it was coming back up and I don't have that so far with the sleeve. I take a sip and let it go down and I don't really have any signal that lets me know my stomach is ready for the next sip. This may mean that I could drink faster than I am but I'm not willing to test that theory out at the moment.

That's about it for now. So far I'm doing well and I'm looking forward to getting the weight back off!

Congrats on your revision. I am also a revision and although I have less restriction than I wish I had with the sleeve, I am glad to have the band gone. After all the complications and problems I had with it I feel so much better with it gone! I didn't realize how crappy I really felt until I didn't anymore.

Best of luck with your sleeve!

I'm interested to see what kind of restriction I have with the sleeve. I seem to do really well with restriction and listen to my body when it tells me I'm full.

Congrats and hope you have a fast recovery! I'm also having my lap band removed and having the sleeve so wish me luck! May I ask what kind of Vitamins are you or anyone here taking because the ones I bought are huge even though they are chewable and I can put them in my Protein shake I can still taste them alot!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
