What to expect two weeks post op?

Recommended Posts

@"P7rancher" I'm in a similar boat as you. I'm having surgery on 6/14 and I'm supposed to travel to TX on the weekend of July 1st for my aunt's 100th birthday party. It would be difficult for me to back out because it is my grandma's sister and my grandma lives with me, so I have to take her.

I have talked to my surgeon about it and though he is hesitant, he hasn't totally forbidden it yet. I have my 2-week post-op appointment the Tuesday before I go, so he said we could discuss it again then, depending on how I'm progressing. He also warned me that I'd probably still be feeling pretty rough, so I may not want to. I'm going into this with the mindset that I'm going to do everything I can to get on the road to recovery as quickly as possible.

Good luck to you!! Let us know how you're doing!

Two weeks out I had very little to no pain at all. I was still quite nauseous and had a hard time getting my fluids in especially Water at the time. But I know like a lot of people have already said here, everyone recovers and heals differently. Best advice I can give is to follow the plan you and your surgeon have come up with, and keep in contact with them if pain or any other unplanned symptoms start to show up.

I was tired, I was eating soft foods. so as long as you plan your food and drinks, and feel like visiting casually (no horseshoe throwing, ok?) you should be fine.

I have my sleeve scheduled for June 15 and our family reunion is scheduled for July 1.

I know everyone is different but please give me an idea of how I will feel. I know I will be on very soft foods and that's OK.

Wish this could have been planned a little better but didn't work out that way.

At two weeks I was on full liquids and recovering well.

The only thing I remember about that time was that I was still mentally fuzzy. Some people also struggle early out with fluctuating hormones which can lead to moodiness, depression, etc.

As long as you take it easy and be gentle with yourself, you should be ok. Just don't plan to participate in any sack races!

Thank you for all the replies.

Setting in the waiting room waiting to be called to surgery. Feel like I'm on a roller coaster getting pulled to the top of the first drop.

Here we go!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
