Okay. 9 days till my surgery. My surgeon doesn't do a one week pre op diet. It's 24 hours liquids prior to surgery.

I'm kind of freaking out about that due to no strict diet prior. What foods should I try avoid pre op for this week?

Obviously I'll stay away from sugars, carbonated drink, caffeine, etc but any other ideas?

I'm REALLY SCARED of recovery. For obvious reasons but I'm also diabetic and scared of the healing process. I go back to work 7 days post op.

Give me words of encouragement. Tell me I'll get through the terrible part and feel better and will never regret this.

Also, emotional eater. So. There's that too.

Thanks.

@madisunshine1... My surgeon says he doesn't do the liquid diet so you will be stronger for the surgery combined with the fact the first days post op eating might not be that easy.... I'm am emotional eater to, I've been thinking how am I going to handle that in the days before surgery, I'll try to keep junk food out of the house... Thankfully I'll be going through all this in Summer, so the beach can help distract me...if others can make it through 2 weeks of liquids than I'm confident you will make it through with flying colors..

Breathe! :) You'll be good to go! My surgeon doesn't have patients do a liquid diet pre-surgery, though we were required to lose 5% of our body weight prior to.. I would just try to find some good Protein powder that you like-- you'll need it for when you get home anyway. I'm also diabetic.. be prepared that your numbers may be high in the hospital while you're on the IV, they'll monitor it and as soon as you get off the iv, they start to go down. I've had nice low blood sugars ever since :) Bring some slippers or flip flops with you, and maybe a robe, and as soon as you feel up to it-- and maybe sooner than that, have one of the nurses take you for a walk around the floor! The sooner you get walking the faster you'll get better. For me- my throat was very sore from the tubes. One of the nurses was able to get the doc to let me have chloraseptic spray and that made a huge difference. Recovery- once I was home was much quicker for me, than I expected. If you can find an abdominal binder before surgery (they sometimes have them at the hospital but not always)-- that was a life saver for me! I wore it home from the hospital, and it really helped when we had bumps to drive over.. and I wore it when I went out for short walks. I also wore it my first two weeks back at work just for some extra support and tummy protection.

I'm an emotional eater too. The worst part for me is that I work in the ER at a hospital where there's ALWAYS food, drinks, and Snacks galore!!!!!! I'm trying to start being mentally prepared for my 2 week Pre-op and the surgery!! Here's my words to you, Just think of the results u are going to get. Imagine yourself getting to your goal weight when you're scared or in doubt. It'll all be worth it in the end.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
