How have people responded to your weghtloss?

Recommended Posts

Wasn't sure how to title this but what Im asking is what is your response when people acknowledge your weightloss? For example if someone who has not seen you in a while says OMG, you've lost so much weight, what have you been doing??" what do you tell them? Do you tell them you have had weight loss surgery?

Yes.

I tell them I had VSG surgery and have followed the new way of eating most of the time.

There is no other way I can explain losing 185 lbs. What do I say, "Oh yeah....I was in Kamchatka on vacation and was bitten by a rabid sea snake while skin diving for dinner......and the venom burned away all my fat?".

I tell them I had surgery, follow a high protein/low carb diet and don't drink alcohol (much).

I'm planning to tell people I'm following a high Protein diet under doctor supervision... When I get to the final result I may be more opened... I would not be comfortable saying I had surgery until I'm sure it resulted in significant weight loss... Odds seem to be in my favor that it will, don't want to jinx it.

if I feel the situation is appropriate I tell them I had the surgery and am following the plan.

if it is more a passing comment and not inviting explanation then I just say thank you, and yes I am trying to loose the weight. (that part is due to a recent cancer scare, and some acquaintances are concerned about my health and I appreciate their care)

I just say "thanks, I've been working at it" and if they insist on knowing what I'm doing I bring up that I started running... It shuts most up as they aren't interested in it themselves

@missmac... I don't feel I'm lying, I would just be omitting an important detail til a later time... I live in a apt building with many gossipers... The less the know about how I'm dropping weight the better.

This is how I handle it too. If I'm in the mood or the situation is appropriate, I'll tell them. If not, I just say watching my portions and exercise :)

Personally, I don't feel that I owe anybody an explanation about my body. While I graciously and happily received compliments about my weight loss, further inquiry is generally in bad taste and not something that I encourage of people. To me, the body is extremely personal. At the very least it's very rude to ask someone about the decisions they make for their bodies.

I've told my family, friends, and co-workers. Everyone has been supportive although my mom tried to talk me out of it, saying I was a big-boned individual who was meant to have meat on my bones. I disagree.

When people ask me, "what's your secret?" to weight loss. I tell them I have been doing EVERYTHING. I diet, I exercise, I participate in a medically supervised weight loss program, I attend a monthly support group, I track my food daily using My Fitness Pal, I weight myself daily, etc. By the time I'm done, I have told them what they don't want to hear- that you have to work lose weight and keep it off.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
