Im 5 days away from surgery, staying calm thanks to this forum!

Recommended Posts

Hi! Im 5 days away from my surgery (May 31st) yay! And Im staying calm thanks to this amazing community! A few days ago I posted that I was feeling completely alone and a lot of you came right to the rescue and made me feel Im not alone in this journey.

Now, on the liquid diet (day 10, 5 more to go)... I cheated today, I ate a toast that my boyfriend left behind after Breakfast. OMG I had almost forgotten how it felt to chew something! It felt good, bad, guilty, all at the same time. I came here, read that the same happened to many of you and now Im focused on staying clean until my surgery.

Something nobody told me: my body hurts like hell! I don't know if its because I've lost 30lbs or because Im nervous but my back is hurting, my teeth are hurting, my ear hurts, I have a headache.... Its like my body is mad at me! Did this happened to you too? I can't take ant painkillers so Im stuck.

Finally, Im already on leave from work so tomorrow Im spending the day putting together some care packages for my mom, my MIL and my boyfriend who are going to be taking care of me in the week after surgery, and I read here that its a nice gesture to give something to the nurses too so let me know if you have any ideas or if you've done it too!

Thanks everyone for reading, have a great day/night! :)

(As I said in my last post sorry if my English is not perfect Im from Latin America currently living in Argentina)

Don't feel bad about cheating just really try not to let it happen again. I made it 6 days before I broke down and got myself a bagel in the morning and pizza that night. Still lost 25 pounds during the pre op liquid diet and everything went absolutely perfectly during surgery. Best of luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
