I also went for my first dr visit. I am trying to figure out if I am strong enough to go through the changes banding takes. I feel like this is my only chace at a healthier skinner me . Can anyone who is 6mths to a yr out let me know what the eat? Can you have any kind of bread at all?

pizza?Steak?hamburger meat , noodles, rice ?

It is completely normal to be worried you're going to miss foods. I think most of us went through it ourselves. You even go through a mourning phase of missing food. I agree with Was a Bubble butt...You are NOT thinking like a bander! You can not honestly understand as a pre-banded the feeling of not caring about food like you do now.

Now to answer your question, Yes there are people that can still eat the above listed foods BUT these are the types for foods you want to avoid...they are the reason behind us getting the lapband. You want to eat healthier. There are people that come on here and complain they are Not loosing weight and if you ask them what they are eating...chances are they will reluctantly tell you about the junk they are still eating like a pre-bander.

You have a Much smaller stomach - it is Important you take in your healthy Protein (shrimp, chicken, fish High Proteins...I occasionaly enjoy a small trim piece of steak) and once you have your Protein then add a healthy veggie type carb. And on occasion I've had some rice or even a little bit of wheat Pasta...but it's a "Treat" now, not every night with my meals like before! This is a new way of eating/living. You will understand and feel it once you are banded. Like I said it is hard to fathem at this point but you will! Check out my numbers...I'm loosing quite well for 4 1/2 months out. I avoid white carbs but I don't deny myself. If my family is having Doritos I'll have one or two and that satisfies my urges. I'm able to have a bite or two of something and feel like I had some but lets not get out of hand. And I don't do it everyday!!!

Good luck...

Thanks to everyone who responded. This website is wonderful, lots of my questions have been answered. Once I am banded i'm sure I will need lots of support. I live in a rural area so support groups are not really available.

You are all an inspiration that life can change for the better.

Man, I can really relate to the fear that you have. I am waiting on insurance to give me approval and I have started to have some doubts. I am still going to go forward but I am already mourning food and I'm not even banded! Mentally I know that the control food has over me is not normal. But I have lived this way my entire life and the idea of changing forever scares me! I honestly know in my head that my life is going to be so freakin awesome once I am banded. Now I just need to get my emotions and years of bad food habits to agree with my head!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
