Sugar free options without nutrasweet?

Recommended Posts

I'm still a couple of months out, but am reading the topics people post about what foods to have on hand post-op. I see a lot of recommendations for sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free Jello, sugar-free pudding, etc. Which makes sense. But I have to be super careful with nutrasweet. It is a Migraine trigger for me, and I don't think I'd be wise to have a lot of it post-op when my body is recovering and likely slightly dehydrated (which is another migraine trigger). Every pre-made sugar-free popsicle and jello I've found has nutrasweet in it. Does anyone have any suggestions around this? And while I don't usually have time for things like making popsicles from scratch, I do have plenty of support at home, and will be off work completely for a week and then working from home as long as needed... so if the only answer is make it from scratch, I can deal with that. I just wouldn't have a clue how to make something like jello from scratch.

Incidentally, while I know some people think Splenda is poison, I don't agree. However, I have noticed that Splenda leaves a horrible aftertaste in my mouth for hours and hours after I've eaten/drunk something with it. So I'd be happy to find alternatives without it as well, but it's not critical. I have started using Monk Fruit sweetener for my coffee, and it's good but I don't know how flexible it is for cooking and baking and things. I've been pleasantly surprised that most of the Protein stuff (Isopure, Bariatric fusion, powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, etc.) are not sweetened with nutrasweet. So at least I don't have to go too far out there to get my protein in postop. :)

@@theantichick I'm not a fan of sugar free popsicles - leaves an aftertaste. I was thinking about making my own post-op (we'll see what happens then). They sell the containers on Amazon. There's plain Gelatin that you could make your own (there must be recipes online). My grandmother used to make coffee Jello - it was SO GOOD!!! Here's a recipe I found online. You could replace the sugar with splenda. http://www.food.com/recipe/coffee-jello-81870 (I just looked at this recipe and it was from someone in Rhode Island - which is were I am too - so it may have been only a RI thing).

I personally do not like sugar... especially the artificial stuff. . It makes me feel funky.

You could make your own popsicles... freeze some Water with some juice for flavor.

You could also freeze flat lemonade (there won't be any carbonation)

Honestly.. i brought the normal stuff... i wasnt having sugar in anything else so for the first 2 weeks i didnt worry too much. . I was only eating a quarter of it anyway

I was going to discuss having the sugared ones with my doc because of the nutrasweet thing. Like you said, it's only going to be for a few days, and there won't be a lot of intake those days anyway. :) Hydration may be more important than cutting sugar at that point. :D

@@theantichick Outshine fruit Bars has a no sugar added version and they are delicious. The only sugar is from real fruit.

Thanks, I'll have to find out where to get some to try. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
