I am scheduled for surgery this Friday and I am freaking out. I am scared that something terrible will happen to me. I had a heart halter monitor and an echo (ultrasound of heart) done two weeks ago and everything came back normal, but I am still freaking out and worried that i wont make it. Sorry I know I am being dramatic, but I can't help it.

Anyone out there feel the same? Any advice?

Sincerely,

Freaking out!

I have gone through same thoughts before my surgery, I think this is very normal... Everything went well so I believe you will be on as well:)

Yeah, I'd say it's normal. I'm actually planning to get all my legal paperwork in place "just in case". But I think we'll all get through things just fine in the long run, even if there are hiccups along the way. The scariest thing for me is that I have a really hard time imaging what life will be like on the other side of surgery.

The fact that it will be hard, and there will be a lot of ups and downs - that I get, because it's how life goes no matter what weight you are. But despite the fact that I've dreamed of being lighter, more fit, I can't really imagine what it will be like. I haven't been a "normal" size since grade school.

Still, we've all got reasons for doing this. Good reasons. And I think it's worth whatever risks come up along the way.

I am terrified of surgery, especially general anesthesia, so when I decided to do the sleeve I even surprised myself. I just kept telling myself, this is not a choice, this has to be done, just like I had to have my gallbladder out, and I felt better, still nervous of course it is only normal, but I stopped freaking out. I am now 9 months out and feel amazing, down 96lbs, and would do it again in a second. Good luck

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
